STAKEHOLDERS’ ENGAGEMENT ON THE SOLAR PILOTED PROJECT in Karene District .

As part of the deliberate efforts to contribute positively to reducing the global emission of CO2 and promoting cleaning energy to rural settings (vulnerable localities) today _21st May 2024_ , #Trocaire and #AAD-SL have held a fruitful engagement with district stakeholders regarding the pilot initiative of the Solar Energy at household level at #Kamethe village, in Sella Limba chiefdom. This all important meeting occasioned at the conference hall of the Karene District Council and was well attended by the following dignitaries (also see photos);

1- The Karene District Council deputy chairperson,

2- The Chief Administrator (CA),

3- The Deputy Chief Administrator (DCA),

4- The Development and Planning Officer (DPO)

5- Paramount Chief representative,

6- Civil Society representative,

7- Media representative.

Stating the purpose of the meeting, the Karene District Coordinator for AAD-SL (John J. Thullah) lamented that, AAD-SL will always ensure that stakeholders are well informed and involved on all project initiatives undertaken in it’s operational communities, hence the meeting was to give an opportunity to the different stakeholders to have a clear understanding of the project initiative and enabling them to ask wide range of questions as well.

Fast-forward on the meeting, Eyitayo representing Trocaire presented an overview of the entire project elucidating that, funds for this project is provided by the Irish Embassy. He further made mention of an assessment which was carried out in 3- communities ( Mayola village in the Sanda Loko chiefdom and Kakuru and Kamethe villages in the Sella Limba chiefdom) in the month of February 2024. However, Kamethe village was finally selected for this pilot project based on the outcome of the assessment conducted which holds different indicators, including Price Point of NLe 45.00 per month to be paid per household with a kit on an ongoing basis. Eyitayo also underscored the different models ( 1-The Rent to Own model and 2- the Energy Service model) used by the Service Provider (Easy Solar) and for the piloted project to have chosen the ” Energy Service model”. He further deliberated on the advantages for the selection of the model chosen. Based on the success of the project, Eyitayo also commented on: Sustainability, Scalability and Replicability of the initiative.

At this material point, there was an opportunity for questions from the different stakeholders in attendance which were very much insightful and that will help in future implementations.

All of the questions asked were responded to by Trocaire (Eyitayo) and AAD-SL (John).

The next step is to have Seven (7) of the stakeholders as enlisted above to visit the community (Kamethe village) tomorrow where the installation of Solar Kits will take place.
