AAD-SL joins the World in celebrating World Environment Day
With a clear understanding of the operational context of Karene District and in line to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) : 15 (Life on Land)- ” Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss” and SDG: 17 ( Partnership for the Goals) ” Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development”, AAD-SL has today _5th June, 2024_ collaborated with the Karene District Council, Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Household farmers, Sierra Leone Union on Disability (SLUDi), Civil Society Organisations, Schools, the Media, the Sierra Leone Police, Local authorities and other wide range of district stakeholders in celebrating World Environment Day on the Global theme: Accelerating Land Restoration, Drought Resilience and Desertification progress, which is being hosted in Riyadh – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with funds from Irish Aid through Trocaire .
World Environment Day is the biggest international day for the environment.
The celebration in Kamakwie started with a procession from Kamakwie -3 (where participants converged) right through Kamakwie- 1 (where the procession ended). Processing along the streets of Kamakwie with flyers and flex banner, there were several stops at crowded areas to enhance increased awareness raising on need for friendly environmental management and the negative impacts of Climate Extremes to man and the environment at large.
Moving forward, the procession end at the Kamakwie Court Barray, where statements of admonition on the significance of the day’s event were delivered by different stakeholders.
The celebration was climaxed with Symbolic Tree planting at the Kamakwie Town Hall.
